Leicester City’s Sporting Success Statue

A statue celebrating the sporting success of the city sits on Gallowtree Gate. Overlooked by Leicester’s most favorite landmark, The Clock Tower.


The bronze statue, depicts three interlinked sportsman in action. Namely a cricketer, a footballer and a rugby player.

it was sculpted by Martin Williams after being commissioned at the end of the various 1996/97 sports season.

It celebrates the outstanding success of the city’s sports teams in their respective 1996/1997 seasons. Leicestershire County Cricket won the Britannic Assurance County Championship, Leicester City Football Club won the Coca Cola Cup and the Leicester Tigers rugby union team won the Pilkington Cup.

The statue was unveiled in 1998.
